About Comedy Mothership

Comedy Mothership occupies the historic Ritz Theater, a Sixth Street building that opened in 1929 as Austin's first movie house built for talking pictures. After decades as a cinema, music venue, punk room, and Alamo Drafthouse location, the building was renovated as a stand-up club and reopened in 2023. Its two showrooms, Fat Man and Little Boy, give the club room for both major headliners and more intimate showcases.

What to expect

Expect the experience to reflect the room itself. The audience is usually close to the stage, making timing, crowd energy, and the personality of the host especially important. The published age guidance is 21+, and the venue is currently associated with stand-up and open mic. Current calendar listings include Joe Rogan and Friends, Bottom of The Barrel, and The Best Of Comedy Mothership, a useful snapshot of the room's published programming. Lineups and schedules can move quickly, so each Comedy Austin event page points back to the venue's own listing for final ticket and admission details.

Planning your visit

Comedy Mothership is listed at 320 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701. Check the individual event page before leaving for the latest start time, ticket status, age policy, and room information. For popular weekend shows, arriving early is a sensible way to handle parking, seating, and any venue check-in requirements. Comedy Austin presents the useful planning details in one place while leaving ticket sales and final policies with the venue itself.

First-time visitor guide

What to know before going to Comedy Mothership

Direct answer: Comedy Mothership is a 21-and-over, two-showroom stand-up club at 320 E. Sixth Street. Buy tickets only through the club, bring a physical government-issued ID, arrive 30–45 minutes early, expect first-come seating within your ticket type, and plan for a phone-free show using a Yondr pouch. The showroom also has a two-item minimum.

Choose the room before you choose a seat

The club has two showrooms. Fat Man is the larger headliner room; Little Boy is the smaller room for more intimate local and national lineups. Start by choosing the performance and room you want, then compare the ticket types offered on that official show listing.

General-admission and booth seating are first come, first seated within their categories. A booth is sold as a four-person unit. Complete parties need to enter together, and the club does not guarantee a particular table or one uninterrupted table for a large group.

Arrival and ticket rules are part of the plan

Purchase directly from Comedy Mothership. The club prohibits resale and warns that it cannot guarantee tickets bought elsewhere. It may require the original purchaser and matching identification, and tickets can be forfeited when the holder arrives more than 30 minutes after the published start time.

The venue recommends arriving 30–45 minutes early; groups should allow 45–60 minutes to clear security and line up together. Every guest must be at least 21 and present a valid physical government-issued ID. The club's terms also require a two-item minimum in the showroom; nonalcoholic options count under the current FAQ.

Expect a phone-free performance

Phones and smart watches go into Yondr pouches on arrival. Guests keep the pouch and can use a designated phone-use area when needed. Personal lobby photos are permitted before or after a show, but unauthorized photography and recording are prohibited during performances.

Large bags, large electronics, recording devices, outside food and drinks, weapons, and other items listed by the club are not permitted. Check the official rules again on the day of your show if you are unsure about an item.

Accessibility and downtown arrival

Both theaters are accessible by elevator. The club asks guests who need the elevator to arrive at least 45 minutes early and notify security. Fat Man has general-admission seats outside the elevator while some booths require steps; Little Boy uses ramped walkways.

The venue does not advertise a dedicated parking facility. Its FAQ points to nearby paid lots and street parking, but downtown availability, closures, meters, and posted restrictions can change. Treat the sign at the space—not an old parking tip—as the final word.

Compare this room with other Austin comedy clubs, browse the broader Austin stand-up guide, check the current Austin comedy calendar, or use the venue directory to plan another neighborhood.
